I’ll be taking my usual holiday hiatus, barring any breaking news, from now until the new year, returning on January 7, 2026!
But first, I wanted to share some things I’m looking forward to in the coming weeks and months (in no particular order).
First, and this is just personal, I’ve got a new book coming out in December (anthology with eleven other authors). So if you’re looking for some short holiday reads and would like to check out my fiction writing, you can find it here (and at other retailers): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FSNH17GM/
Second, next year will be my tenth anniversary of starting burosumab (and, unrelated, the fifth anniversary of my coronary artery bypass graft surgery), which also means that Kyowa Kirin will have ten years’ worth of data on burosumab in the real world (if you include the final clinical trial as part of the real world). Can’t wait to see that data and consider what it means for XLHers going forward!
Third, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research is having its annual meeting in Boston, not an impossible trip for me, so I’m hoping to finagle a way into attending, at least for one day, to see the posters and meet a few people in person.
Fourth, the International Conference on Children’s Bone Health will be in Montreal, a bit more of a trip for me, but maybe possible. Again, I’m hopeful that I can attend for at least one day, especially if the International XLH Alliance is doing a connected event, like it has in the past.
Fifth, another personal, non-XLH thing, but I’ll be re-releasing the three out-of-print Garlic Farm Mysteries in the spring, along with a brand new fourth book in the series, A Fair Death.
Sixth, there are some XLH-related projects I’m in discussions to be involved with. I’ll share the details with you when I can, but they’re still embargoed right now. Just know that despite the horrors at the NIH/CDC/FDA, there is still important scientific work being done to improve the lives of patients with chronic hypophosphatemia. I can’t wait to see what researchers come up with for us next!
So, until January, have a happy, healthy year-end, and I’ll see you on the other side.
